Under the Darkest Skies

A shoot for Moana Skies, the stargazing operator in Kaikoura's dark sky sanctuary, capturing both the night sky itself and the guided tour experience beneath it.

I wanted to hold two things in the same frame that usually fight each other, the full weight of one of the country's darkest skies and the human moments happening under it. Working almost entirely in the dark, the aim was long exposures that keep the stars honest while the people beneath them still read as real, present, and in awe.
